MTA Long Island Railroad’s (LIRR) $76 million Arch Street Shop & Yard project recently was named the “2006 Design-Build Project of the Year” by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Metropolitan Section.

Gannett Fleming Transit & Rail Systems (GFT&RS), a division of Gannett Fleming, was responsible for the project’s preliminary engineering, as well as the facility’s functional and operational requirements. GFT&RS provided engineering and architectural design services, including civil, utilities, track, structural, mechanical, electrical, industrial and signal work. The firm also provided project management services.

The new maintenance facility was designed to service a fleet of 800 M-7 vehicles.
