Yesterday, Providence and Worcester Railroad Co. (PWRR) announced its long-time President Orville Harrold died unexpectedly. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert Eder will assume Harrold's duties until the regional’s board elects a new president.

A 45-year railroad industry veteran, Harrold joined PWRR after the railroad was formed in 1973 and became president in 1980. He previously served as chief engineer and general manager.

The 545-mile PWRR moves traffic over lines in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and operates two intermodal yards in Worcester, Mass.
