The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (LACMTA) Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension now is more than 80 percent complete and set to open on time in mid-2009.
The six-mile line will run from downtown L.A.’s Union Station through Little Tokyo and Boyle Heights to East Los Angeles. The project includes eight stations, including two underground. Contractor Eastside LRT Constructors currently is building the stations, as well as laying track and installing overhead catenary wires.
In addition, construction crews have reached a new safety milestone. Workers have logged more than 3 million work-hours without an accident that requires a day away from work, LACMTA said.
