Italy’s Ansaldobreda S.p.A. recently delivered the first of 50 new light-rail vehicles to Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA MTA).
The 90-foot-long vehicles feature seating for 76 passengers, stainless steel interior, public address systems, surveillance cameras and global positioning systems.
LA MTA will operate the $2.9 million cars on the Blue, Green and Gold lines, as well as the Gold Line’s Eastside Extension, which is scheduled to open in December 2009.
The authority will begin operating the first new vehicle in late 2005 or early 2006.
