The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) board recently approved a $13.8 million fiscal-year 2007 budget adjustment to provide funds for system improvements.

During the next two months, MARTA will begin providing later service on the Proctor Creek Line; implementing additional passenger-car and track maintenance programs; adding rail maintenance staff at South Yard; repairing station public-address systems; improving station lighting; and hiring more workers to answer station emergency, information and call center phones, as well as additional track and passenger-car cleaning, and station maintenance staff.

The board also approved capital expenditures already included in the budget to acquire radios and fare boxes for new vehicles, and improve facilities and communications systems.
