Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) recently opened its largest-ever rail maintenance and storage facility.
The Armour Yard Rail Service Facility will house heavy-repair operations and store more than 100 passenger cars. The 33-acre facility features a control tower, power substation, blow-down pit and train washer, as well as maintenance and overhaul, gap breaker, cleaner, maintenance-of-way, and petroleum oils and lubricants buildings.
The facility also includes a bypass track and lead tracks that connect to MARTA’s north line.
