MARTA to make fare payments a 'breeze'

During the American Public Transportation Association annual meeting held earlier this week in Atlanta, Metropolitan Atlanta Transportation Authority (MARTA) and Cubic Transportation Systems Inc. officials unveiled a preview of the authority’s future smart-card-based ticketing system.
"Breeze" will enable commuters to travel throughout Atlanta using one common smart card to pay for rail, bus and paratransit fares, and park-and-ride fees. In the future, the smart card system also could be used for event ticketing, retail purchases and security access.
Last year, MARTA awarded a $72.5 million contract to Cubic to design, build and deliver the multi-modal fare collection and revenue management system to replace the authority’s existing magnetic ticketing and token-based system.
