Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) and Rhode Island Department of Transportation recently unveiled the new Pawtucket Layover Facility.
Jointly developed by the two agencies, the $18.5 million project included building a six-track commuter-rail yard to store rolling stock overnight.
The facility will accommodate MBTA’s recent service expansion on the Providence, R.I.-to-Boston corridor. In late July, the authority increased the number of weekday round trips between South Station and Providence from 11 to 15, and began offering weekend service between the two cities.
