MBTA completes seven-year Aquarium Station renovation

Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) recently completed a seven-year, $72 million project to rehabilitate the Blue Line’s Aquarium Station.
The project included a platform extension to accommodate six-car trains, overall station modernization and handicapped-accessibility improvements. In 2005, MBTA plans to take delivery of 94 new subway cars, which will be added to the Blue Line to create the six-car train sets.
Station refurbishment began in 1996. Originally scheduled for completion in 2004, the station was closed for a year to enable MBTA to focus solely on construction and complete the project ahead of schedule.
