Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
After being closed the past 18 months during construction, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority’s (MBTA) Mattapan Trolley Line reopened Dec. 22.
MBTA shut down the line to remove and reconstruct a viaduct at Ashmont Station, and rebuild Mattapan Station. The stations now feature elevated platforms, temporary shelters and seating, new tactile platform edging and signage, and improved lighting.
The authority currently is repairing six stations between Ashmont and Mattapan. Scheduled to be complete in spring 2008, the project calls for installing new speaker systems, canopies and shelters, closed-circuit surveillance cameras, electronic message boards and bike racks.
