Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) recently awarded a $6.2 million contract to S&R Co. Inc. to renovate the Mattapan Station, the terminus of the Mattapan-Ashmont trolley line.
The project includes building new platforms with shelters and benches, and adding signage, lighting and a communication system. S&R also will construct a two-story building to house a MBTA Police substation and offices.
In addition, the authority will upgrade the six stops between Ashmont and Mattapan with new canopies and signage, and improved handicap access.
The project will begin in June and take about 15 months to complete. MBTA will shut down the trolley line for a year during construction.
