Michigan State University’s Railway Management Program (RMP) has unveiled $7,500 scholarships that are available for two short-line employees.

On behalf of the Cooperstown Conference, Robert Grossman and Maggie Silver recently established the scholarships in memory of Walter Rich, the former chairman, president and chief executive officer of the Delaware Otsego Corp. who died in August 2007. Each scholarship can be applied to the $15,000 fee for the four-week Certificate Course in Railway Management.

The next course will begin in November. One-week classes will be conducted that month and in December, February and March 2010. The course examines all aspects of the rail industry from a management perspective.

The American Association of Railroad Superintendents’ Scholarship Committee will manage the scholarship application and initial selection process. Interested applicants can visit the AARS’ Web site at www.supt.org, click on the “MSU Railway/Walter Rich Scholarship” hyperlink and complete an application.

All applications must be submitted by July 31. Direct questions to Bill Wick of the RMP via email at wickw@msu.edu.

In addition, the AARS is offering one full scholarship for the Certificate Course in Railway Management to any current rail employee. Information and application forms are available on the association’s Web site. Applications must be submitted by July 30.
