The Rahall Transportation Institute and Center for Business and Economic Research at Marshall University recently began conducting an intermodal shipping and receiving operations feasibility study in the Appalachian region.
The institute mailed more than 2,600 surveys to shippers and operating firms in the area. The study will support a statewide intermodal and multi-modal transportation partnership project with the West Virginia Public Port Authority, according to the institute.
“Intermodal shipping is a valuable tool for retaining and attracting companies to ensure a solid economic future,” said Patrick Donovan, the institute’s director of maritime and intermodal transportation, in a prepared statement. “Multi-modal, multi-functional terminals and intermodal transloading facilities are essential for our region.”
