Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) recently installed a security surveillance system at the Camden Yards light- and commuter-rail station. The system is designed to integrate closed-circuit cameras with a software program to monitor activity 24/7.
The system creates a baseline image that is constantly compared with refreshed images captured by the camera to identify suspicious items or activities. Law enforcement officers receive any questionable images, which can be viewed on an operations center main screen.
MTA received $12.7 million in state and federal funds for the system, which the agency eventually will install at all subway, commuter- and light-rail stations.
