The George Meany Center for Labor Studies-National Labor College will conduct a hazardous materials emergency response course May 17-20 at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers-National Electrical Contractors Association training center in Sacramento, Calif.

Including classroom instruction and hands-on training drills, the course covers response procedures and worker protection requirements after a haz-mat release. Attendees also will participate in a simulated haz-mat response dressed in full safety gear.

The course is federally funded by the Institute of Environmental Health Sciences and administered by the Meany Center in cooperation with seven rail labor unions.

Space is limited to railroad workers on a first come, first served basis; about 15 spots still are open.
