Northeast Illinois Regional Commuter Railroad Corp. (Metra) recently introduced its proposed fiscal-year 2006 spending plans, which include a $535.8 million operating and $246.6 million capital budget.
The capital budget includes $85.4 million to rehabilitate rolling stock; $43 million to complete projects designed to expand service on the North Central Service, Union Pacific West and SouthWest Service lines; and $22 million to rehabilitate stations and expand parking capacity.
Metra also proposed raising fares 5 percent in February to help cover rising fuel and security costs.
