On Wednesday, Metrolink and Amtrak carried their one millionth Rail 2 Rail passenger.
Launched in 2002, the Rail 2 Rail joint ticketing program enables Metrolink monthly pass holders to board any Amtrak Surfliner train or vice versa within the trip limits indicted on their pass. The program provides passengers access to an additional 78 trains.
Each month, Amtrak and Metrolink average more than 30,000 Rail 2 Rail trips. During the past year, the average weekday ridership of Metrolink pass holders riding Amtrak trains has increased 17 percent.
