The Mineta Transportation Institute (MTI) recently appointed Mortimer Downey chair and Steve Heminger, vice chair. They will serve two-year terms.

Downey is a senior advisor at Parsons Brinckerhoff Inc. and Heminger is executive director of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission in Oakland, Calif.

In addition, MTI named five new trustees: Thomas Barron, president of Parsons Transportation Group; Ignacio Barron de Angoiti, director of the Passenger and High Speed Department for International Union of Railways; Rose Guilbault, executive vice president of the American Automobile Association; Ed Hamberger, president and chief executive officer of the Association of American Railroads; and Cindy McKim, acting director for the California Department of Transportation.

MTI was established by Congress in 1991 as part of the Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act. The institute conducts research and focuses education and information sharing on multimodal surface transportation policy and management issues.
