The Minnesota Department of Transportation last week put out a call for applications for the 2022 Minnesota Rail Service Improvement Program.
Railroads, shippers, cities and counties can apply for up to $6.5 million in funding for projects that will improve freight-rail service supporting economic development, MnDOT officials said in a press release.
Examples of eligible projects include tracks, roadbeds, tryouts, bridges, fixed loading/unloading equipment and buildings. The grants can’t be used for regular or recurring maintenance, incomplete or phased projects or engineering, design or right-of-way acquisition costs.
Applications are due Dec. 16. More information is available here.
