During the first quarter, Metro Transit posted overall ridership growth on its bus and light-rail systems of 7.2 percent — fueled by a 16.4 percent increase in Hiawatha ridership — compared with first-quarter 2007’s total.
During the period, light-rail ridership totaled 2.1 million, the first time Hiawatha topped the 2 million mark in a quarter since its inception four years ago.
To attract even more riders, Metro Transit recently improved its online trip planner by adding mapping capabilities. The maps enable riders to zoom in and out to see train and bus stop locations, and obtain walking directions to and from train and bus stops.
