MxV Rail and Colorado State University Pueblo (CSU Pueblo) yesterday announced they've signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a framework for working together on future education, training and research related to the safety, security and innovation of rail transportation in the state.

The partnership will enable MxV Rail and CSU Pueblo to use each other’s expertise and facilities and to meet the mission and goals of their respective organizations, officials with both organizations said in a press release.

Specifically, CSU Pueblo’s Southern Colorado Institute of Transportation Technology (SCITT) will work with MxV Rail staff to identify research questions and issues that could benefit the rail industry. The teams also have agreed to actively participate in identifying and acquiring potential grants or other funding sources to advance future research or collaborative projects.

"MxV Rail has a long history of supporting CSU Pueblo engineering programs and students. We are excited to formalize our partnership with CSU Pueblo and provide a pathway to explore future joint projects through SCITT," said MxV Rail President and CEO Kari Gonzales.

A partnership established in May 2022 between CSU Pueblo and the state of Colorado, SCITT provides education and training and conducts research on rail, ground and intermodal transportation issues in the state. Gonzales will serve as an inaugural member of the SCITT Governing Board.

"The partnership between MxV Rail and CSU Pueblo ... is an opportunity to unite specialized academic knowledge and industry expertise," said CSU Pueblo President Timothy Mottet. "Partnerships like these allow us to identify key questions and create innovative solutions that positively impact the future of transportation."

MxV Rail's MOU with CSU Pueblo is the second such agreement with a college or university in recent weeks. In April, MxV Rail and Indian River State College agreed to work together on education, training and research related to rail.
