On July 30, National Industrial Transportation League (NITL) named John Ficker president, effective Sept. 1. He succeeds Peter Gatti, who's served as acting president since March, when former president Ed Emmett resigned. Gatti will continue to serve as the league's vice president of international policy.

A 33-year transportation-industry veteran, Ficker most recently served as logistics development manager for Weyerhaeuser Co., where he was responsible for developing and managing legislative positions and regulatory policy. He previously served as corporate transportation manager for Publishers Paper Co. and held sales-related positions with Southern Pacific Transportation Co.

Ficker also serves as a guest lecturer for the University of Wisconsin's transportation-management programs.

"[Ficker] understands the needs of our members and the concerns of the freight-transportation industry," said NITL Chairman Tom Pellington in a prepared statement.
