NITL members open organization's door to carriers, third-party providers

Sweeping change is on the way at National Industrial Transportation League (NITL). The shipper organization Feb. 19 announced that members approved by a nearly three-to-one margin Vision 2020, a proposal permitting all freight transportation companies to become full, voting NITL members.
To better serve a wider membership — including carriers and third-party transportation providers — NITL officials now plan to restructure the organization's staff.
"The League has long been viewed as the organization which represents shippers interests in regulatory and legislative battles — where the issues require us to do that, we still will," said NITL President Edward Emmett in a prepared statement. "But, in recent years, there have been fewer and fewer such issues [and] now we will become much more visible in a whole range of issues that affect the daily business lives of all parts of the freight transportation industry."
Vision 2020 was first proposed in November by NITL's executive committee and approved in January by the organization's board, leading to the membership vote.
