NJ Transit, Red Cross promote emergency preparedness at stations

Today, New Jersey Transit and the American Red Cross are teaming up to raise emergency preparedness awareness at more than three dozen NJ Transit rail stations, light-rail stops and bus terminals.

Representatives from the agencies will distribute information on a number of topics, including terrorism preparedness, creating an emergency kit and alternate travel options in the event of a service disruption. At Newark’s Penn Station — the state’s largest transportation hub — NJ Transit police officers will distribute emergency preparedness guides and security alert cards, which include a phone number to report unattended packages or suspicious activity.

In addition, Red Cross workers will collect donations for the organization’s Hurricane Katrina disaster relief fund.
