New Jersey Transit passengers soon will have 143 additional parking spaces at the North Hackensack Station. The agency’s board recently approved a plan to build a second parking lot at the facility to increase the number of available spaces to 291.
The station is served by trains on the Pascack Valley Line, over which NJ Transit plans to expand service. The agency is completing construction of four passing tracks along the single-track line, which will enable trains to operate in both directions. Currently, all Pascack Valley trains run to Hoboken in the morning, and from Hoboken in the afternoon and evening. During the next several months, NJ Transit plans to introduce bi-directional, off-peak and weekend rail service on the line, which is projected to boost ridership at the North Hackensack Station.
The $1.6 million parking project is scheduled to begin in September and conclude in mid-2008.
