NJ Transit to advance Hudson-Bergen extension, grade separation project

New Jersey Transit’s board recently gave agency officials the go-ahead on two projects.

The agency will begin acquiring property to build a one-mile Hudson-Bergen Light Rail line extension, which will run from the current terminus at 22nd Street in Bayonne south to a new station at 8th Street. Construction is expected to begin in 2008 and be complete in late 2009.

NJ Transit also will begin final design for the 69th Street bridge and roadway project in North Bergen, N.J. The project calls for grade separating 69th Street from an existing six-track freight-rail corridor, over which NJ Transit will launch a future North Branch passenger-rail line. The project is scheduled to be complete by 2011.
