NJ Transit to refurbish, expand Metropark Station

Last week, New Jersey Transit awarded a $29.8 million contract to Anselmi & DeCicco Inc. to renovate the Northeast Corridor’s Metropark Station, the agency’s busiest outlying station.

The project includes expanding platforms to accommodate 12-car trains, building climate-controlled shelters, expanding and refurbishing the station building, renovating a pedestrian tunnel, and adding a new communication system, lighting and signage.

Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2007 and be complete in 2010. Built in 1971, Metropark Station is served by 106 trains daily and used by about 7,200 passengers each weekday.
