NJ Transit's River LINE hits three-million passenger mark

Yesterday, New Jersey Transit carried its three millionth customer on the River LINE. Since opening in March 2004, the line’s ridership has steadily increased, reaching a high of 7,600 weekday trips last month.

The line’s ridership is increasing at a faster rate than any other NJ Transit service. Strong summer ridership tied to events and area attractions has driven the rate increase, NJ Transit officials believe. The agency also launched a promotion with the Delaware River Port Authority under which the agency offered PATCO Speedline customers a free transfer to River LINE trains to Camden Waterfront.

In addition, a fare policy that took effect in July enables customers with a monthly or weekly commuter-rail pass can ride the River LINE for free.

During the past 18 months, NJ Transit has reduced headways to 15 minutes during peak periods, improved bus service to provide better connections with River LINE service, and launched early morning service from Florence and Roebling to Trenton, and Cinnaminson to Camden.
