At Progressive Railroading's RailTrends® conference next week in New York City, National Railroad Construction & Maintenance Association Inc. President Chuck Baker will present "Hurricane Sandy: The Response of the Rail Industry and Railroad Contractors."

The session was developed exclusively for RailTrends after the super storm impacted portions of the nation's most heavily used rail lines in the Northeast, shutting down New York City's and New Jersey's commuter-rail services, and Amtrak's regional routes for days. RailTrends also was impacted by Hurricane Sandy, which forced the rescheduling of the event from its original dates of Nov. 1 and 2 to Dec. 10 and 11. The conference will be held at the W New York Hotel in Manhattan.

Other RailTrends presenters include CN Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Jean-Jacques Ruest; Union Pacific Railroad VP of Engineering Joe Santamaria; CSX Transportation VP of Intermodal Bill Clement; Kansas City Southern EVP of Sales and Marketing Patrick Ottensmeyer; Amtrak President and Chief Executive Officer Joseph Boardman; OmniTRAX Inc. President and CEO Gary Long; Alaska Railroad Corp. President and CEO Christopher Aadnesen; Association of American Railroads President and Chief Executive Officer Ed Hamberger; Railway Association of Canada President and CEO Michael Bourque; National Industrial Transportation League President and CEO Bruce Carlton; and American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association President Richard Timmons.

Also during the conference, Progressive Railroading and RailTrends will acknowledge Union Pacific Corp. Chairman Jim Young, who is the 2012 recipient of their "Railroad Innovator Award" that recognizes an individual's outstanding achievement in the rail industry.

Titled "2012 Freight Game Changers: Coal, Commodities, Politics and Passenger Rail," this year's RailTrends conference includes comprehensive content that was created in response to the internal realities of the rail industry, top-of-mind topics and button-pushing subjects, such as the future of Amtrak, energy markets, information technology, intermodal and rail safety.
