Norfolk Southern Corp. recently presented Thoroughbred Chemical Safety Awards to 31 chemical shippers. Bestowed annually the past 10 years, the awards recognize companies that ship more than 1,000 carloads of hazardous chemicals without an incident.

The winners collectively handled more than 115,000 haz-mat shipments without an accidental release or incident.

“At this time of heightened awareness regarding the safety and security of our national transportation network, these companies have demonstrated the value of rail transportation as the preferred and safest method of delivering potentially hazardous chemicals to communities,” said NS Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Wick Moorman in a prepared statement.
