Last week, Norfolk Southern Corp. presented its ninth annual Thoroughbred Chemical Safety Awards to 36 shippers.
The awards recognize chemical shippers that moved more than 1,000 carloads of hazardous materials on NS last year without an incident or accidental release. Combined, the award winners handled more than 70,000 haz-mat carloads in 2004 without a single product release.
“These companies have demonstrated in the best possible way —through
accident-free handling of chemicals — their dedication to safety in their
workplaces and in their communities,” said NS Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David Goode in a prepared statement.
The winners are Akzo Nobel Chemicals Inc.; BOC Gases; BP Products North America; Celanese Ltd.; ConocoPhillips Co.; E.I. DuPont de Nemours and Co.; Eaglebrook Inc.; Eastman Chemical Co.; Enterprise Products Co.; Equistar Chemicals L.P.; ExxonMobil Chemical Co.; Finnchem USA Inc.; Georgia Gulf Corp.; Horsehead Corp.; Husky Energy Marketing Inc.; KOCH Nitrogen Co.; Koppers Inc.; Lucite International; Lyondell Chemical Co.; Marathon Ashland Petroleum; NorFalco Sales Inc.; NOVA Chemicals Corp.; Nucor Steel; Occidental Chemical; Olin Chlor Alkali Products; Oxy Vinyls L.P.; PCS Sales (USA) Inc.; Petrosul International Ltd.; PPG Industries Inc.; Praxair Inc.; Premcor Refining Group; Rhodia Inc.; Sunbelt Chlor Alkali Partnership; Sunoco Chemicals Inc.; Valero Marketing and Supply Co.; and Vulcan Chemicals.
