Last week, Norfolk Southern Corp. bestowed its Thoroughbred Award to two employees to recognize their contributions to marketing and customer service achievements.

The railroad honored National Account Manager Tom Landrum for leading a sales and marketing team that increased 2004 ethanol traffic 59 percent compared with 2003. Landrum helped establish partnerships with major ethanol suppliers and distributors in New York and the southeast.

NS also honored Manager of Transportation Planning and Budget Craig Marin for developing a scorecard that helps the transportation department track expenses, train performance and service, and reduce costs.

The Class I had nominated seven other employees for the award.

“These individuals’ … ingenuity and ability to work toward solutions that benefit our customers and our company show their commitment to continual improvement,” said John Samuels, NS senior vice president of operations planning and support, in a prepared statement.
