Like all Class Is, Norfolk Southern Corp. needs to hire thousands of workers to keep up with escalating traffic and attrition. And a number of those recruits could be former military personnel.

NS recently joined the U.S. Army’s Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) through which the Class I will work with the U.S. Army Recruiting Command to promote railroading careers to qualified soldiers. Under the program, eligible enlistees will receive transportation-related job training during their Army career and a guaranteed opportunity to interview for specific NS positions after completing military service.

“Due to their focus on safety, professionalism and leadership, job candidates with military backgrounds are very much sought after by Norfolk Southern,” said NS Assistant Vice President of Human Resources Rick Davison in a prepared statement.

BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad also are PaYS program members.
