Norfolk Southern Railway’s $11 million Cleveland-area intermodal terminal is open for business.
Located in Maple Heights, Ohio, near Interstates 480 and 271, the 70-acre facility replaces NS’ downtown Cleveland terminal and features double-stack capability, 3,000 feet of loading/unloading track and 360 parking spaces.
"The Maple Heights facility will provide improved and expanded services for Northern Ohio businesses moving goods between the Cleveland area and ports on the East Coast," said Mike McClellan, NS vice president for intermodal marketing, in a prepared statement.
For example, NS expects to slice 24 hours off its Norfolk, Va.-to-Cleveland service. The railroad also will add service from Cleveland to the New York/New Jersey area via Erail (a 38-hour service) and Dockside (a 46-hour service).
