Norfolk Southern Corp. has joined the social networking crowd. Yesterday, the Class I announced that the media, customers, shareholders, bloggers and others now can follow NS via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr.
The railroad already has garnered 7,000 fans on Facebook and 300 followers on Twitter, and posted 13 videos on YouTube about operations and business initiatives, including the 2,500-mile Crescent Corridor intermodal route. On Flickr, NS has posted 49 photos and a gallery documenting last winter’s record snowfall.
The Class I has placed icons on its Web site that connect to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr.
“A 180-year-old company that traces its roots to the earliest days of railroading in America now connects with digital-age audiences who get their news through online networking ... [and] in the formats they prefer,” said Frank Brown, NS’ assistant vice president of corporate communications, in a prepared statement.
