advertisement
After more than a year in the making, Norfolk Southern Railway plans Oct. 30 to dedicate its new $100 million intermodal terminal in Austell, Ga.
NS has invited shipping community, port, federal, state, local and Surface Transportation Board members to the dedication, which would include a demonstration of containers transferred from trucks to trains.
The terminal, near Atlanta, is designed to handle a mix of international and domestic intermodal traffic, and help NS serve Charleston, S.C., Savannah, Ga., Miami and Jacksonville, Fla., ports.
The 450-acre facility — which NS opened July 30 — features 20,000 feet of unloading tracks; 26,000 feet of support tracks; 3,000 parking spots for 53-foot trailers; 450 container-stack spaces; and 10 inbound/outbound truck lanes.
