NS recognizes employees' operational-enhancement efforts

Norfolk Southern Corp. July 30 bestowed its Thoroughbred Award to three employees for their efforts in developing systems designed to improve the railroad's safety and customer service.
Adam Mastrangelo, research project manager, and Greg Lowe, senior innovations engineer, of NS' research and test department, and Randy King, transportation department crew management analyst, won the award, which recognizes outstanding, highly visible employee contributions that have a significant, long-term impact on NS' operations.
Mastrangelo and Lowe developed Railview, a digital video system mounted in locomotives designed to document grade crossing and trespasser incidents to ease investigations.
King created computer software designed to forecast the number of engineer and conductor trainees NS needs for the next two years — as well as current train crew requirements — enabling the company to better maintain its workforce and accommodate business growth.
