Norfolk Southern Corp. subsidiary Thoroughbred Mechanical Services (TMS) recently reached an agreement with General Motors Corp.'s Electro-Motive Division (EMD) to modify 46 DM30AC and DE30AC locomotives in service on Long Island Rail Road (LIRR).

TMS plans to modify the locomotives' bodies and frames at
NS' Juniata Locomotive Shop in Altoona, Pa., with the first group of locomotives expected to be completed and returned to LIRR in October, according to a statement prepared June 21.

NS in 1999 created TMS to globally market the Class I's mechanical services to railroad, maritime and power-generation industries.
