NS unveils Chicago bulk-transfer facility

Norfolk Southern Railway Jan. 4 opened a Thoroughbred Bulk Transfer (TBT) terminal in Chicago and selected Bulkmatic Transport Co. — which already operates 14 of NS' TBT facilities — as operator.
The facility contains 60 car spots and truck scales, handles dry and liquid bulk products (such as plastic pellets and liquid sweeteners), and provides 24-hour access.
NS owns 23 TBT and other bulk transload facilities in 14 states. TBT facilities are designed to handle bulk-product transfers from one transportation mode to another.
