MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) recently awarded a $110.1 million contract for a new public-address/customer information screens system (PA/CIS) to Siemens Transit Technologies — a consortium comprising Siemens Transportation Systems Inc. and Transit Technologies L.L.C.
The three-year contract includes designing, furnishing and installing a PA/CIS system at 156 stations, and a closed-circuit television surveillance system with customer help-point intercoms at 10 stations.
The PA/CIS system will be designed to interface with NYCT’s Rail Control Center for Automatic Train Supervision, using technology based on Siemens Advanced Communication & Control System software. The system will enable passengers to view real-time information regarding train location and station arrival on 1,000 customer-information screens, and hear announcements on public-address loudspeakers.
