MTA New York City Transit recently awarded a contract to joint venture Parsons Brinckerhoff and Richard Dattner and Partners Architects to provide architectural and engineering design services for the 59th Street/Columbus Circle Station rehabilitation.

The project includes improving ADA accessiblity, reorganizing fare arrays to facilitate circulation, enhancing the station environment for passengers, creating a retail gallery and restoring landmark elements. The project also includes building wider stairs, and adding new lighting and signage.

Construction is scheduled to begin in 2005 and be complete in 2009.

Comprised of two subway stations, the Columbus Circle complex serves about 150,000 passengers daily.
