MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) took first place in all three International Rail Rodeo competitions held Saturday at the agency’s Coney Island Yard in Brooklyn, N.Y. The event — which attracted 20 competing transit agencies — was held in conjunction with the American Public Transportation Association’s Rail Conference.
NYCT won the Rail Transit Achievement Award, which is given to a vehicle operator and maintainer team that posts the highest combined score of all competing transit agencies. The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) took second place and Chicago Transit Authority, third.
NYCT also took first in the operators’ competition, which judges train operation skills, as well as an operators’ knowledge of safety regulations, train equipment, and right-of-way rules and procedures. MARTA won second place and the Sacramento Regional Transit District, third.
Finally, NYCT won the maintainers’ competition, which judges participants’ ability to troubleshoot maintenance problems. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority and Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority took second and third place, respectively.
