MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) is a little more than four months into a multi-year reorganization plan that calls for assigning general managers to each of the subway operator's 26 lines.
Now, you can learn why the agency is implementing the plan, what will be accomplished this year, how NYCT is carrying out the reorganization and when it'll be completed. Managing Editor Jeff Stagl chats with NYCT Senior Vice President of Subways Steve Feil in an audio interview accessible on Progressive Railroading.com.
Feil describes how the line GM concept — used in NYCT's bus operations since the 1980s, but being applied in subway operations for the first time — will make the agency more efficient and responsive to riders' needs. Among other plan details, he mentions that NYCT will assign several other line GMs by year's end in addition to the first two, who were appointed in December.
