On March 16, a Nashville, Tenn., jury awarded a former CSX Transportation worker $2.9 million in damages, ending a six-day trial.

Andrew Blackburn of Jonesborough, Tenn., had sued CSXT for injuries he allegedly suffered when he was thrown from a train while working as a conductor. Blackburn’s injuries included a wound to his back that required surgical fusion, according to Atlanta law firm Cook, Hall & Lampros, which represented the former conductor.

Blackburn based his lawsuit on the Federal Employers Liability Act, which offers workers protections for on-the-job injuries.
