The National Industrial Transportation League (NITL) recently appointed Bruce Carlton president, effective June 1. Former president John Ficker resigned in November 2007 and Annette Sandberg has served as interim president since January.

Carlton currently serves as assistant administrator of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration. As the administration’s ranking Senior Executive Service career official, he is responsible for international activities, policy development and implementation, legislation, economic analysis and strategic planning.

Carlton has more than 30 years’ experience in domestic and international freight transportation issues. He’s also served as executive director of a Washington-based trade association and held a two-year stint as acting administrator/deputy administrator of the Maritime Administration.

Founded in 1907, NITL represents the interests of more than 600 transportation companies.
