The National Mediation Board (NMB) recently named Edward Fitzmaurice Jr. chairman. A board member since August 2002, he previously served as chairman from July 1, 2003, to June 30, 2004.
Prior to joining the NMB, Fitzmaurice was an associate with law firm Kern, Wooley and Maloney, counsel to labor law firm James L. Hicks and Associates, and a pilot, captain, co-pilot and flight engineer for Braniff International.
An independent federal agency established by the Railway Labor Act, the NMB governs labor-management relations for about 500 railroads and 100 airlines in the United States. The board includes members Harry Hoglander and Read Van de Water.
