Logistics service provider National Retail Systems Inc. (NRS) recently announced plans to develop a freight distribution complex in Jersey City, N.J.

Located within 10 miles of the Port of Elizabeth, N.J., the 200-acre "NRS City" complex will be the largest freight-handling facility in the New York City area, NRS said.

The company plans to build two 100,000-square-foot container transload facilities with the capacity to handle 3,000 containers or trailers, and an intermodal rail yard featuring direct access to several nearby mainlines.

NRS currently operates a large distribution facility in the NYC area that features several transload facilities, warehouses and a cross dock. The company also operates several similar facilities in the Los Angeles area and will open a transload center in Savannah, Ga., later this year.
