Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
On Saturday, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority resumed service on a portion of the St. Charles Streetcar Line — more than two years after Hurricane Katrina significantly damaged much of the historic line.
The authority again is operating the green wood-and-steel streetcars on St. Charles Avenue into the Garden District. The entire line is expected to reopen in spring 2008.
Recognized by the National Register of Historic Places, the line first opened in 1835.
