New York Cross Harbor lands fourth contract in two months

On Nov. 5, New York Regional Rail Corp. (NYRR) announced that subsidiary New York Cross Harbor Railroad (NYCH) recently inked another long-term deal.

Balfour Beatty Construction Co. Inc. contracted NYCH to move and store rail cars carrying bridge beams and supports, which Balfour is using to build the Sikorsky Bridge in Connecticut.

NYCH will transfer the 120-foot long, 16-foot high bridge beams to specially outfitted barges that'll carry the materials to the construction site.

"It would have been extremely difficult to move the beams by highway with all of the height- and weight-restricted routes in the New York Tri-State region," said NYCH President Wayne Eastman in a prepared statement.

NYRR estimates that the contract will generate $750,000 in revenue during the next two years, which would increase NYCH's annual revenue between 20 percent and 40 percent.
