Rail News: Rail Industry Trends
On Dec. 10, New York’s Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will hold its first-ever online forum to gather input on its financial plan. The forum will be the last in a series of public meetings on the agency’s long-term spending plan and 2008 budget, which the MTA board will vote on Dec. 19.
The plan aims to tackle to fill $6 billion in projected deficits during the next four years and increase service to meet demand. MTA expects to raise fares and tolls by 3.85 percent, down from a 6.5 percent hike the agency originally projected.
During the online forum, MTA staff will discuss the agency’s financial situation, the proposed fare and toll increases, and the state of MTA’s capital plan. Participants will be able to submit written questions to staff members, who will answer them at the end of the presentation.
